Japan Funds Education and Health Projects
H.E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, has today signed the grant contracts totalling 219,724US Dollars, equivalent to over 510M UGX with the representatives of St. Bakhita Girls’ Senior Secondary School and Agency for Sustainable Rural Transformation (AFSRT) at the Embassy of Japan in Kampala.
St. Bakhita Girls’ Senior Secondary School received 108,327US Dollars for the project to construct a girls’ dormitory block, a latrine block, a bathroom block and fences around the facilities, and to procure 63 two-decker beds. Through this project, access to education for girls will be greatly improved and educational environment at the school will be enhanced.
AFSRT received 111,397 US Dollars to procure 130 oxen, 64 oxen ploughs, cooking equipment, improved seeds and a rice huller. The project will improve the living condition of the farmers and ensure food security in Lango Region.
The donations above are part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community-based development projects in Uganda. The newly signed projects will bring the total of projects so far funded by GGP to 158 since the Embassy initiated the scheme in 1992.
